This large beach at the foot of Ferragudo Castle offers a pleasant setting for a relaxing afternoon. Facing the Portimão Marina, it offers a very different urban landscape from its neighbors. We were won over by its calm waters and ample free parking, a considerable asset in this busy region.
In this article, find our photos and tips for making the most of your visit to Praia da Angrinha.

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
Is Praia da Angrinha worth it?
Yes, it’s one of Portimão’s most beautiful beaches. This stretch of sand at the foot of Ferragudo’s historic castle was particularly convincing in terms of bathing conditions. We enjoyed its calm, sheltered waters, perfect for families looking for an alternative to the region’s busier beaches. Its position opposite the Portimão Marina creates a unique urban panorama that contrasts pleasantly with the wilder atmosphere of the surrounding coves.

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The beach floor is made up of fine blond sand. We loved stretching out and walking barefoot. This pleasant texture extends over the entire length of the beach, offering optimum comfort for tanning and beach activities. It’s also an ideal playground for sandcastles!

Swimming conditions and supervision
Swimming conditions are very good, thanks to the calm, relatively calm waters. We’ve found that this protected natural setting is particularly appealing to families. Entry into the water is gradual and gentle. The absence of large waves makes access to the water easy for all ages and swimming levels. However, we couldn’t find any verified information on beach surveillance.

Installations
We found toilets right on the beach. It also has sports facilities in the parking lot for a variety of physical activities. These well-maintained facilities contribute to the comfort of visitors during their stay on this family beach.

To reach Praia da Angrinha by car, you’ll have to drive past the center of Ferragudo. A large free parking lot is located directly on site, making it easy to get to the beach. We particularly appreciated this considerable advantage in a region where parking can often be a problem, especially during the peak tourist season.

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN THE Algarve
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Don’t take a car that’s too wide, as old towns have narrow streets and small parking spaces.
- For more choice, book early.

Access from the parking lot
Once your vehicle is parked, you can access the beach directly from the parking lot. We found this close proximity very convenient, allowing us to reach the sand in just a few steps. This ease of access is perfect for families carrying beach equipment.

Public transport access
The beach can be reached by bus on route 110, which runs from Lagoa to Portimão. The nearest bus stop, called “Praia Grande”, is about a 5-minute walk away.
