Hotels in the Algarve
The Algarve offers a wide range of hotels, from large seaside resorts to more intimate addresses. In the main tourist towns – Lagos, Portimão, Faro and Albufeira – you’ll find a wide range of options: 3 to 5-star hotels, aparthotels, all-inclusive resorts, boutique hotels and family-run guesthouses.
We’ve noticed that establishments with swimming pools and beach access are very common in Albufeira and Portimão, which are very much oriented towards beach tourism, while Lagos relies more on charming hotels on a human scale, often with more tasteful decoration and a relaxed atmosphere. In Faro, we experienced a more urban offering, with establishments located in the historic center or sometimes near the airport, convenient for a stopover before or after a flight.
In our opinion, the quality of the accommodation is generally up to scratch. Be aware that the region is highly seasonal: between June and September, prices rise and availability is scarce. We therefore recommend that you book early to make sure you have plenty of choice.

1. Boutique Hotel Vila Origens (Albufeira)
Why stay there?
Located in the heart of Albufeira’s old town, the Hotel Boutique Vila Origens will appeal to lovers of history and authenticity. In our opinion, it’s a true oasis of luxury and calm. We were charmed by its 19th-century Hidpano-Moorish-inspired architecture, typical of historicist buildings of the period, and by its ancient 12th-century defensive wall, which give the establishment a unique atmosphere. The elegantly decorated rooms offer modern comfort while preserving the historic character of the site. You’ll appreciate the tranquility of this hotel, ideal for a couple’s getaway. Its immediate proximity to the beach and the lively streets of the old town means you can take full advantage of the local atmosphere, while enjoying a haven of peace in the heart of the historic center.

2. Hotel 3HB (Faro)
Why stay there?
After our stay at the 3HB, we can say without hesitation that this 5-star hotel is a very good choice for spending a few days in Faro. We liked its central location, elegant design and spacious, bright, comfortable rooms. The panoramic terrace with its infinity pool offers an unforgettable experience, while breakfast will delight your taste buds. The attentive, professional service perfectly complements the luxurious experience. In our opinion, this is one of the best hotels in Faro and one of the best luxury hotels in the Algarve.

3. The Homeboat Company floating hotel (Albufeira)
Why stay there?
If you’re a fan of unusual experiences, we recommend staying in one of The Homeboat Company’s floating rooms in my Albufeira Marine! We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the port and the unique sensation of sleeping on the water, aboard a modern, comfortable barge. The floating apartments are well-equipped (kitchen, toilet, shower, terraces…), offering all the comforts you need for a pleasant stay. As well as enjoying a unique and exotic experience, you’ll be close to the harbor’s on-site restaurants if you opt for nautical activities departing from the marina.

4. Boutique Hotel Vivenda Miranda (Lagos)
Why stay there?
Perched on the cliffs of Porto de Mós, the Boutique Hotel Vivenda Miranda totally impressed us! It boasts a magnificent panoramic swimming pool and a charming garden overlooking the ocean. This former private residence boasts an original, well-executed décor, with wall paintings and meticulously restored antique furniture. Restaurant Mirandus also boasts spectacular views of the rocky escarpments of the beach below. How about a yoga session in the garden pavilion overlooking the sea?

Why stay there?
We highly recommend theAppart’hotel Amália Boutique Suites & Studios for a stay in Faro. This very well-located establishment is extremely pleasant, very well decorated and furnished and equipped with taste and care. The atmosphere is very calm, which makes it easy to relax. What’s more, the outdoor area with pool and Jacuzzi is a real asset for relaxing. For us, it’s not onlyone of Faro’s best accommodations, but also one of the best-equipped aparthotels we’ve ever stayed in! We would be delighted to return on our next visit to the region.

6. Jupiter Marina Hotel – Couples & Spa (Portimão)
Why stay there?
This adults-only establishment is a true haven of well-being. Bohemian chic decor favors neutral tones and noble materials to create a Zen atmosphere. The spa area houses a heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, Turkish bath, sauna and much more, with a single aim: to immerse you in absolute relaxation. We were particularly taken with the hotel’s rooftop, which features a panoramic swimming pool, and the Arade Bar, where you can enjoy a cocktail at sunset!

7. Rochavau Hotel (Portimão)
Why stay there?
Nestled between Praia da Rocha and Praia do Vau, which inspired the hotel’s name, this establishment uses the Algarve as a backdrop and source of inspiration for its decor. We really enjoyed the handicrafts on display in the reception area: woven works in Algarve palm leaf and handmade ceramics. In our opinion, this is the best located hotel at the crossroads of several of Portimão’s magnificent beaches. So many opportunities to contemplate superb sunrises or sunsets over the ocean!

Why stay there?
The Aparthotel Palmares Signature boasts a privileged location with breathtaking views of the Alvor estuary and Lagos Bay. We particularly liked the decor of the apartments, which elegantly blend soft colors and natural materials in a bohemian chic style. The adjoining golf course offers a unique experience. Enjoy an exceptional gastronomic experience at the star-rated Restaurant Al Sud. The establishment’s serene, luxurious atmosphere is ideal for golf enthusiasts and couples in search of tranquillity.

Why stay there?
This is definitely our favorite hotel in Portimão, like no other! Perched on a cliff with panoramic views over Praia da Rocha, this legendary establishment is probably the very first hotel in the Algarve, dating back to 1934. Rated Relais & Châteaux, it combines all the amenities of luxury hotels with the charm of 20th-century history. With 38 rooms in 3 different buildings: the Palacere (main building dating from 1918), the Casa Azul (1930s) and the Bela Vista Jardim (2011), it promises an unforgettable experience! High-quality facilities, including a Michelin-starred restaurant and L’Occitane spa, confirm the prestige of this exceptional address. We were lucky enough to stay in the Casa Azul with sea view, and we have many fond memories of it!

Why stay there?
This 5-star resort won us over with its unique decor that pays homage to the great Portuguese explorers: each wing transports you to a different continent, from mysterious Asia to vibrant Africa! The magic also happens outside, where 2 spectacular pools are revealed: one with infinite curves overlooking the ocean, the other lined with fine sand like a beach. To top it all off, the Senses Restaurant sublimates the Algarve’s local produce through creative cuisine with international influences.

Hotel Sol e Mar boasts an exceptional location, literally above the beach (Praia do Peneco), accessible directly from inside the hotel by elevator. But also in the heart of Albufeira’s old town. We were seduced by the hotel’s breathtaking ocean views. Its modern, functional decor will make your stay a pleasant one. Located in Albufeira’s historic center, this establishment is ideal if you want to combine seaside relaxation with exploring Albufeira.
