Best 4-star hotel: Jupiter Marina Hotel – Couples & Spa
We were seduced by this wellness sanctuary reserved exclusively for adults. The magnificent infinity pool on the rooftop offers spectacular views of the marina and the Arade River, creating an idyllic setting for relaxation. The establishment also boasts a full spa to extend this relaxing interlude. Its privileged position overlooking the marina adds the perfect romantic dimension for couples.

Best family hotel: Vitor’s Plaza Aparthotel
This aparthotel is sure to please the whole family, from toddlers to adults, thanks to its facilities perfectly suited to every age. Children will enjoy the playground and low-level pool, while adults will appreciate the 2 pools dedicated to them. Best value for money: Rochavau Hotel
This small, contemporary hotel won us over for its direct proximity to Praia do Amado and Praia dos Careanos. Enjoy sunrise and sunset strolls along these magnificent golden beaches. Another plus: the tastefully decorated communal areas showcase local craftsmanship, with woven works made from Algarve palm leaves and attractive ceramic pieces.

Staying in Praia da Rocha
Praia da Rocha is Portimão’s emblematic seaside district, stretching along the Atlantic coast. We were won over by this immense expanse of fine sand bordered by spectacular ochre cliffs. The lively seafront promenade is packed with restaurants, bars and stores, creating a festive atmosphere day and night!
Benefits:
- Direct access to one of Portimão’s most beautiful beaches
- Wide choice of restaurants and bars
- Lively nightlife
- A wide range of water sports – including surfing

Staying inland
Portimão’s hinterland offers a peaceful alternative to the busy coastal areas. This authentic rural area is only a few kilometers from the beaches, allowing you to combine the tranquility of the countryside with the pleasures of the seaside.

- More affordable than seaside
- Green spaces and preserved nature

- At the crossroads of Portimão, Alvor and Praia da Rocha

Staying near the marina
Situated at the mouth of the River Arade, Portimão Marina offers a pleasant setting for a stroll, between sea and sky. On the other shore, the coastline and Ferragudo Castle add a picturesque touch to the walk. We loved strolling between the catamarans, sailboats and warmly-colored buildings.

Staying in Praia do Vau
Praia do Vau represents a quieter alternative to Praia da Rocha. We recommend this area for its family atmosphere and unspoilt scenery. This small seaside resort offers the charm of an authentic coastal village with modern amenities.

Other useful tips to keep in mind
The Algarve is a popular year-round destination thanks to its exceptional Mediterranean climate. Remember to book your accommodation in advance, especially during the high summer season and European school vacations. Don’t wait for prices to rise! During your stay, we strongly recommend that you use a vehicle to explore the town and the rest of the Algarve in complete freedom. Some of the region’s most beautiful landscapes are difficult to access without a car.

This is definitely our favorite hotel in Portimão, like no other! Perched on a cliff with panoramic views over Praia da Rocha, this legendary establishment is probably the very first hotel in the Algarve, dating back to 1934. Rated Relais & Châteaux, it combines all the amenities of luxury hotels with the charm of 20th-century history. With 38 rooms in 3 different buildings: the Palacere (main building dating from 1918), the Casa Azul (1930s) and the Bela Vista Jardim (2011), it promises an unforgettable experience! High-quality facilities, including a Michelin-starred restaurant and L’Occitane spa, confirm the prestige of this exceptional address. We were lucky enough to stay in the Casa Azul with sea view, and we have many fond memories of it!

This adults-only establishment is a true haven of well-being. Bohemian chic decor favors neutral tones and noble materials to create a Zen atmosphere. The spa area houses a heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, Turkish bath, sauna and many other facilities with a single aim: to immerse you in absolute relaxation. We were particularly taken with the hotel’s rooftop, which features a panoramic swimming pool, and the Arade Bar, where you can enjoy a cocktail at sunset!

Why stay there?
Nestled between Praia da Rocha and Praia do Vau, which inspired the hotel’s name, this establishment uses the Algarve as a backdrop and source of inspiration for its decor. We really enjoyed the handicrafts on display in the reception area: woven works in Algarve palm leaf and handmade ceramics. In our opinion, this is the best located hotel at the crossroads of several of Portimão’s magnificent beaches. So many opportunities to contemplate superb sunrises or sunsets over the ocean!

4. RR Hotel da Rocha (4 stars)
Why stay there?
Featuring spacious suites with contemporary decor, this hotel is particularly family-friendly. Located just a few meters from the famous Praia da Rocha, it offers a host of facilities, from an outdoor swimming pool for a refreshing dip after a long day out, to a restaurant for evening dining. Our room offered generous space from the sleeping area through the kitchen to the living room. A big plus: we also had a sea-view balcony! As you can see, our bed was really big too.

The fully-equipped kitchen opens onto the living room for easy, convivial meal preparation. We appreciated the tranquil atmosphere of this aparthotel, which offers a relaxing setting away from the hustle and bustle of tourism. The beach is just a 10-minute walk away.
