Is the Hotel Bela Vista worth it? Our review
In our opinion, Hotel Bela Vista is one of the Algarve’s exceptional addresses. Its historic elegance, characterful decor and privileged seafront location create a unique atmosphere. Here, luxury means authenticity and refinement, not ostentation. This isone of Portimão’s finest establishments, ideal for a romantic getaway or a moment of relaxation.

Decoration and atmosphere
It’s impossible to remain indifferent to the hotel’s decoration, so dense and abundant is it. From floor to ceiling, every nook and cranny is teeming with details that immerse us in the owner’s eclectic and passionate universe. Colorful azulejos, coral-shaped vases, vibrant mosaics… a veritable visual cacophony where each element tells a story. And yet, despite this profusion of objects and styles, the whole works surprisingly well, creating a warm, lively harmony. The subtly subdued lighting enhances the feeling of being elsewhere, in a place apart.

Each space has its own identity, making it even more exciting to explore. The living room, for example, is a cosy cocoon with its traditional fireplace surrounded by azulejos, perfect for a moment of relaxation. The breakfast area, meanwhile, features blue tones and marine decorations that recall the immediate proximity of the ocean. These contrasts create a sensory journey, moving from a hushed ambience to a more invigorating atmosphere.

The room
Located in the Casa Azul, an annex to the historic palace, our room was a veritable cocoon of bluish hues. We loved the perfect harmony between the furniture, fabrics and wall tones, creating a soft, soothing decor. The high ceilings, enhanced by refined lighting fixtures, reinforced the impression of space and lightness.

There was no shortage of little gestures: bottled water, fresh fruit, coffee machine, minibar and even a few inspiring books. These thoughtful touches made our stay even more enjoyable. From the window, the view of Praia da Rocha was breathtaking, a real privilege.

The bathroom
In our bathroom, the glass shower was open to the room. Toiletries by L’Occitane en Provence, as well as cozy bathrobes and slippers, added a touch of luxury. A few decorative objects, inspired by the world of travel, subtly completed the ensemble.

The breakfast
Breakfast was one of our pleasant surprises of the stay. The buffet offers a wide variety of local products: walnut cakes, olive oil, Pasteis de Nata… as well as a more classic selection of sweet and savoury foods: cheeses, cold meats, fresh vegetables, pastries, pancakes, fruit and yoghurt. More surprisingly, a whole piece of game, with the animal’s leg exposed, comes as a surprise to lovers of authentic flavors.

Our favorites include eggs Benedict, avocado-smoked salmon-coriander toast, and cottage cheese-goji berry-honey-walnut toast, all creative options that provide an energizing start to the day. Vegetarians are not forgotten, with several alternatives available such as plant milks and adapted yogurts. This copious and refined breakfast perfectly reflects the attention paid to the quality of products and the diversity of tastes.

Swimming pools and beach access
The hotel offers a number of areas in which to enjoy the seaside and relax. The outdoor pool, perched high above the Praia da Rocha, offers spectacular ocean views, ideal for sunbathing in complete tranquillity. For those who prefer privacy and calm, an indoor pool is available in the spa area, perfect for a moment of relaxation sheltered from the wind.

From the hotel, direct access to Praia da Rocha makes it easy to reach the beach on foot and enjoy the golden sands as soon as the first rays of sunshine appear. Finally, beach towels are available for guests, so they can travel light and enjoy the swim to the full.

Equipment and common areas
The L’Occitane spa, a veritable haven of relaxation, offers a full range of treatments for in-depth rejuvenation: fragrant hammam, comforting sauna, relaxing massages and even olfactory stimulation to awaken the senses. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the light-filled fitness room, with a breathtaking ocean view that makes every session more enjoyable.

Finally, at dusk, the panoramic terrace becomes one of the most beautiful places to admire the sunset, a moment suspended between sky and sea. For a more plant-based break, the Bela Vista Jardim garden offers a peaceful green setting, ideal for strolling or reading in the comfort of a deckchair.

The restoration
When it comes to dining, the hotel offers a variety of settings in which to indulge. The tastefully decorated lounge-piano bar invites you to enjoy a cocktail at the end of the day. The more relaxed pool bar lets you sip a drink with your feet in the water. For dinner, we were lucky enough to discover the 1-star Restaurant Vista, where every plate was a true culinary experience. The inventive, refined cuisine showcases the flavors of the Algarve, sublimating local produce with creativity and elegance. In fact, it’s one of our favourite restaurants in Portimão!

A little history
Arriving at the Hôtel Bela Vista, you discover an elegant 19th-century family home facing the Atlantic Ocean. Perched on a cliff with panoramic views over Praia da Rocha, this legendary establishment is probably the very first hotel in the Algarve, dating back to 1934. Rated Relais & Châteaux, it combines all the amenities of luxury hotels with the charm of 20th-century history. With 38 rooms in 3 different buildings: the Palacere (main building dating from 1918), the Casa Azul (1930s) and the Bela Vista Jardim (2011), it promises an unforgettable experience!
