Absolutely! We discovered a more authentic city in winter, far from the hustle and bustle of summer. Mild temperatures allow you to enjoy outdoor activities to the full, and the more attractive prices make it an ideal destination for an off-season break. What’s more, the winter light sublimates the colorful facades of the historic center and offers spectacular sunsets over the ocean. You can also take advantage of the city’s various museums and more exclusive tours!

Weather, temperatures and conditions
Winter in Cascais is particularly mild, with average temperatures between 10°C and 17°C. We particularly appreciate this mild weather, which allows us to enjoy outdoor activities. Rainfall is more frequent between November and February, but rarely of long duration. The ocean breeze can sometimes cool the atmosphere, so remember to bring a windbreaker for your coastal walks.
Things to do in Cascais in winter
There’s plenty to do in Cascais this time of year!
- Stroll through the historic center with its cobbled streets, which will be less crowded and just as picturesque.
- Visit museums such as the Museo Condes de Castro Guimarães, Casa de Santa Maria or Casa das Historias Paula Rego.
- Take the magnificent coastal walk to Estoril
- Go to the Estoril Casino and see shows
- Watch the surfers at Guincho Beach (yes, lots of them surf in winter!)
- Take a trip to Sintra and visit its palaces
- Enjoy your hotel’s spa and swimming pool
- Enjoy fish specialties in traditional restaurants

How to get to Cascais
- From Lisbon: 40min by train from Cais do Sodré station (pleasant journey along the coast) and 30min by car on the A5 freeway.
- From Sintra: 30min by car on the A16 and N9
Christmas in Cascais
During the festive season, Cascais is decked out in lights. The town organizes a traditional Christmas market on the Place du 5 Octobre. We particularly enjoy the festive atmosphere of the illuminated pedestrian streets. In some years, a temporary skating rink is set up in the city center to delight families, while restaurants offer special menus featuring Portuguese gastronomy.
New Year in Cascais
New Year’s Eve in Cascais is a magical time. The bay lights up with fireworks, and the atmosphere is festive yet family-friendly. We recommend reserving a table in one of the sea-view restaurants to enjoy the show. Estoril’s bars and casinos, within walking distance of the promenade, also offer special evenings to celebrate the New Year.
