Why stay at Hotel Montebelo Vista Alegre?
Hotel Montebelo Vista Alegre is an excellent option if you’re looking for upscale, centrally-located accommodation with a stylish design. In our opinion, its main assets are:
- Ideal location: Chiado is, in our opinion, Lisbon’s most elegant and cultured district. We liked the balance between refined boutiques, historic cafés (like A Brasileira) and theaters. When you stay at Hotel Montebelo Vista Alegre, you’ll be just a stone’s throw from the Bairro Alto district for nightlife and the Baixa district for strolls along the Tagus River.

- The decor is both designer and romantic: we were charmed by the combination of velvet and original porcelain from the Vista Alegre factory. Every detail contributes to creating a hushed, elegant atmosphere.
- Personalized welcome and advice: the hotel staff gave us invaluable recommendations for making the most of our stay. A tailor-made way to discover Lisbon!

Is the Hotel Montebelo Vista Alegre worth it? Our review
For us, the Hotel Montebelo Vista Alegre is definitely worth a visit. This is one of our favorite hotels in Lisbon! Its romantic, intimate ambience, meticulous decor and exceptional location make it one of the capital’s finest hotels.

Decoration and atmosphere
Hotel Montebelo Vista Alegre is distinguished by its refined design and romantic atmosphere. Each of the hotel’s three wings features an original theme.
Rooms overlooking Rua das Flores are decorated with floral motifs. In Rua do Alecrim, each room evokes the scent of rosemary, complemented by other natural elements. Rooms overlooking the Largo do Barão de Quintela are more spacious and feature porcelain from Vista Alegre.

The wink that won us over? Each room features a room number with a ceramic horse’s head. This is a reference to the Largo do Barão de Quintela, a former stable located in front of the hotel.

The room
Our room was elegant, romantic and hushed, with green velvet on the headboard and blue carpet on the floor. We also appreciated the equestrian touches in the room (plate over bed, ceramics) in homage to the former stable in front of the hotel.

We loved the view from our room, which overlooked the Largo do Barão de Quintela. The view of the historic square added an undeniable charm to the room, as did the brightness!

The bathroom
We liked the contemporary, spacious bathroom. White marble walls with a herringbone pattern contrast with the black mosaic floor, bringing an understated elegance to the room. We particularly liked the huge shower head and the sweetly scented Portus Cale hygiene products.

The breakfast
Our breakfast at the Hotel Montebelo Vista Alegre was delicious! The buffet features local produce: Portuguese cheeses, verrines of Portuguese specialties, local jams and pasteis de nata. We also appreciated the table service offering a choice of egg preparations (Benedict, scrambled, fried, soft-boiled), grilled tomatoes and onions.

The breakfast room is very chic and cosy, with marble tables and woven wicker chairs. We found it a particularly pleasant setting in which to start the day.

Equipment and common areas
A lovely Portuguese ceramics boutique is located in the same building as the hotel, next to reception. We appreciated being able to discover local crafts without leaving the establishment. It’s a great opportunity to bring home an authentic souvenir!

The restoration
The hotel is home to Restaurant Ponja Nikkei, serving fusion Peruvian and Japanese cuisine. This original culinary alliance offers a unique gastronomic experience.
So you can enjoy a convivial moment without having to leave the premises.

History
Hotel Montebelo Vista Alegre is housed in a meticulously restored historic building. We appreciated this combination of history and contemporary comfort, particularly in the suite, which has retained its original stuccoed ceilings.
