Nestling to thewest of Albufeira, Praia do Castelo is a small cove protected by golden cliffs sculpted by wind and sea. With its fine sand and beautiful scenery, it offers a more intimate setting than the larger beaches in the center.
Here are some useful tips for planning your visit to Albufeira’s Praia do Castelo.

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
Is Praia do Castelo worth it?
Yes, absolutely! The well-appointed beach is easy to access thanks to stairs leading down directly from the parking lot. With its confidential cove feel, it’s a pleasant beach for a quiet break, provided you arrive early in the summer as it fills up quickly. You can even eat there. We liked the facilities (toilets, deckchairs…) and the various activities available (paddle, kayak…). The rocky outcrops along its shores offer a magnificent backdrop typical of the region and a perfect spot for snorkeling. This is one of most beautiful beaches in Albufeira!
On the other hand, the waves can make swimming a little sporty on certain days, so we recommend that you exercise caution.
The beach is one of Albufeira’s main attractions.

Beach type: sandy, supervised…
Sand or no sand?
The beach floor is covered with fine, light-colored sand. Ideal for lounging or playing by the water.

Swimming conditions and supervision
The access slope to the water is gentle. The rocks on either side of the beach are a haven for biodiversity. It’s the ideal beach for snorkeling.
Signs indicate that the beach is supervised in season, and we saw lifeguards there.

Installations
We found showers and toilets right on the beach. Sun loungers are also available for hire.

Access by car and parking
Access by car is easy via well-maintained roads. Parking is available not far from the beach in a dedicated parking lot. In high season, it may be more difficult to find a parking space.

OUR ADVICE FOR RENTING A CAR IN THE Algarve
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Don’t take a car that’s too wide, as old towns have narrow streets and small parking spaces.
- For more choice, book early.

Access from the parking lot
The beach is below the parking lot. To get down there, you’ll have to climb a specially installed wooden staircase.

Public transport access
If you’re taking public transport, the nearest stop is “Pr. Castelo / Evaristo” on the city’s transport network. It’s less than 10 minutes’ walk to the beach.
