Lagos’ charm lies in its picturesque historic center, with its cobbled streets and lively squares. In fact, it features in our selection of the city’s must-do activities. We were won over by the cultural offerings concentrated in the old town, as well as by the quality of its culinary scene. Staying in the old town of Lagos
We loved discovering the old town of Lagos. With its charming squares and pastel buildings, it’s an inviting place to stroll and relax. Handicraft stores lurk around the cobbled streets, selling ceramics and local specialities. Bordered by the Ribeira de Bensafrim and adjacent to the marina, this area is perfect for a stroll.

Staying in Ponta da Piedade
Ponta da Piedade is a must-see natural site in the Algarve. We were amazed by its spectacular rock formations and crystal-clear waters. The coastline reveals cliff-top coastal paths, which can be contemplated from the sea on boat excursions!

- Numerous walks in this unique natural setting
- Crystal-clear waters ideal for snorkeling
Disadvantages:
- Very busy site, especially in high season
- Risk of falling off marked trails (loose rock)

Staying in Meia Praia
The largest beach in Lagos, Meia Praia overlooks the city center from the opposite shore. While it lacks the charm of the Algarve’s characteristic beaches surrounded by golden cliffs, it makes up for it with its vibrant atmosphere and numerous beach bars. A magnificent golf course overlooks the beach at the Palmares Ocean Living resort.

Lagos is a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months. We recommend that you book your accommodation as early as possible to take advantage of the best rates. Don’t wait for prices to rise! We prefer the Booking platform, as calendars are updated in real time.
During your stay, we strongly recommend that you use a vehicle to explore the town and the rest of the Algarve in complete freedom. Some of the region’s most beautiful landscapes are difficult to access without a car.

Restaurant Mirandus also boasts spectacular views of the rocky escarpments of the beach below. How about a yoga session in the garden pavilion overlooking the sea?

The magic also happens outside, where 2 spectacular pools are revealed: one with infinite curves overlooking the ocean, the other lined with fine sand like a beach. To top it all off, the Senses Restaurant sublimates the Algarve’s local produce through creative cuisine with international influences.

Ideally located in the heart of the old town, the Lagos Avenida Hotel faces the marina. We were won over by the bohemian-chic decor of the rooms, very bright and cocooning. The rooftop pool offers a breathtaking view of the harbor entrance, while the Avenida Restaurant, one of our favorites in the city, delights the taste buds of gourmets. In fact, this was the establishment where we had the best breakfast during our stay in Lagos! How about a cocktail by the pool as the sun sets over the city?

Nestled just a few minutes’ walk from the magnificent Praia de Porto de Mós, we recommend staying at the Lagos Atlantic Hotel. Although far from downtown Lagos, it’s within easy reach of the Ponta da Piedade. Its strategic location and superb outdoor pool convinced us! We loved the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the establishment, enhanced by attentive service and modern surroundings.
