Praia dos Estudantes is a charming little cove framed by golden cliffs and adjoining Praia da Batata. Located close to Lagos city center, it is dominated by the Bridge of the Old Fort of Pinhão. We were seduced by its unique setting, which gives it a special charm, between history and nature.
In this article, you’ll find our photos and tips on how to make the most of your time on the water!

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
Is the Praia dos Estudantes worth it?
Yes, we think this beach is well worth a visit. It’s one of our favourites in Lagos! Topped by an ancient Roman bridge linking 2 rock formations, this is one of the region’s most photographed beaches. We loved its unspoilt natural setting, with its impressive cliffs offering natural shelter from the wind. It’s a 3-minute walk from the kayak tour departures.

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The Praia dos Estudantes is covered with fairly granular blond sand. Watch your feet, as a few rocks emerge from the sand, adding character to the landscape.

Swimming conditions and supervision
Swimming conditions are good, thanks to a particularly calm sea held between 2 cliffs. We’ve found that swimming is more enjoyable at high tide, when the beach offers a nice stretch of sand. At low tide, large rocks are exposed. We didn’t see any lifeguards or beach lifeguard signs.
For safety reasons, we recommend that you do not approach the cliffs too closely, as there is a risk of falling rocks.

Installations
We didn’t see any showers on site. On the other hand, you’ll find public toilets, some adapted for the disabled, at the Praia do Cais da Solária, 5 minutes away. Umbrella and deckchair hire does not seem to be available on this beach.

Public transport access
The beach is easily accessible by bus thanks to the local network. The “Praça do Infante” stop is just a 7-minute walk away. You’ll pass the Ponta da Bandeira fortress and cross the Praia da Batata to reach the beach. A tunnel links the 2 sand zones. Find out about bus routes and timetables here.

Special features
Dog
Dogs are not allowed on the beach.

Reduced mobility access
The beach has no facilities for people with reduced mobility. To get there, you’ll have to cross a sand-covered passage in the cliff or climb steep stairs. We recommend the Praia da Batata, which is better equipped for people with reduced mobility.

With children
The beach is ideal for children, with its calm, clear waters ideal for swimming. We particularly liked the tunnels linking the beaches. It’s a fun activity, but a real risk for children. For greater safety, the Praia da Batata is a better alternative, as it is guarded. What’s more, it’s the starting point for kayak outings – an ideal family activity!

Naturism
It is not possible to practice naturism on this beach.
Eating out
Two friendly establishments are located in the immediate vicinity of the beach. Restaurant Mar, on a clifftop overlooking the Praia dos Estudantes, offers lunches and cocktails with magnificent views. The Batata Beach Bar, located directly on the Praia da Batata, offers a simple menu of refreshing dishes and drinks.
