Just a few meters from the heart of Lagos, Praia da Batata won us over with its strategic location and unique setting. Surrounded by golden cliffs, it is well-equipped, especially for people with reduced mobility. It is also the starting point for kayak trips.
In this article, you’ll find our photos and tips on how to make the most of your time on the water!

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
Is the Praia da Batata worth it?
Yes, this beach is well worth a visit for several reasons. Its privileged position, close to the Ponta da Bandeira fortress, makes it easily accessible from the center of Lagos. This stretch of sand, protected by cliffs, is a delight to swim in with its clear waters. Here you can enjoy a range of water sports, including kayaking. It is also connected to the Praia dos Estudantes by a tunnel.

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
Praia da Batata is covered with soft, blonde sand. We did, however, notice the presence of numerous shellfish and Posidonia meadows.

Swimming conditions and supervision
Swimming conditions are ideal thanks to the beach’s sheltered location. We particularly appreciated the transparency of the water and the absence of waves, making swimming very safe, especially for families with children. The beach is supervised by lifeguards, mainly during the summer months. However, signs indicate that tsunamis are a possibility and that you shouldn’t get too close to the crumbling cliffs.

Installations
We didn’t see any showers on site. On the other hand, you’ll find toilets, some adapted for the disabled, at the Praia do Cais da Solária next door. Umbrella and deckchair hire does not seem to be available on this beach.
