Are you looking for a golden sandy beach with an exceptional setting in the Algarve? The Praia dos Caneiros in Ferragudo is a picture-postcard setting, with its iconic rocky peak rising out of the turquoise water. Close to Portimão, we were won over by this well-equipped beach, one of the most photographed in the region thanks to its striking scenery.
In this article, you’ll find our photos and advice on how to make the most of this pleasant interlude by the ocean.

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
Is the Praia dos Caneiros worth it?
Absolutely! This beach, with its many facilities for relaxation, won us over with its unique, wild setting. Facing the stretch of golden sand, a magnificent rocky outcrop emerges from the turquoise water. We watched the tourist boats pass by at the foot of this iconic rock, adding a picturesque dimension to the landscape. This is one of Portimão’s most beautiful beaches and also one of Ferragudo’s main attractions.

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The beach floor is made up of fine golden sand. We loved lying on it and enjoying the pleasant texture underfoot. This high-quality sand, combined with the rocky outcrop that characterizes the beach, creates a striking contrast and offers ideal conditions for relaxation.

Swimming conditions and supervision
Praia dos Caneiros offers generally pleasant bathing conditions. However, you should remain vigilant: depending on the day, the waves can be quite powerful, making the sea more turbulent. The beach is supervised during the high season, ensuring the safety of bathers. The slope to enter the water is quite steep and you quickly lose your footing, which may surprise inexperienced swimmers.

Installations
The beach is well equipped for your comfort: showers and toilets are available, as are deckchairs, parasols and Balinese beds for hire. To enhance your day, you can also enjoy a massage or browse through a book in the on-site book box.
