Visiting Portimão in winter: is it worth it?
Our review
In our opinion, visiting Portimão in winter is well worth it, especially if you don’t like crowds! This period offers a more authentic and tranquil experience, in pleasant contrast to the hustle and bustle of summer. We particularly appreciate the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent coastal scenery without being disturbed by a horde of tourists.

Walks along the golden cliffs of the Praia dos Três Castelos are even more impressive in the winter light. We also recommend exploring the cobbled streets of the old town, where you can discover the true soul of this Portuguese city, free from the hustle and bustle of tourism.

Weather, temperatures and conditions
Winter in Portimão is particularly mild compared to the rest of Europe, making it an ideal destination to escape the cold winter days. The average maximum temperature is around 17°C (65°F), while the minimum is around 9°C (48°F). Cloud cover remains relatively low, and rainfall, although present, is not excessive. Sunny days abound, making excursions and hikes particularly enjoyable. Although the ocean temperature is cooler than in summer, it’s still quite suitable for water sports like surfing, especially if you’re equipped with a wetsuit. The wind and swell conditions at this time of year also create ideal waves for surfing enthusiasts.
