Getting around Lagos<\/h3>\n\n

Getting around Lagos is easy and pleasant, especially in the city center, which is easy to get around on foot thanks to its pedestrian streets. However, a car is a convenient way to reach Ponta da Piedade and outlying beaches such as Praia do Canavial<\/a>. Alternatively, we recommend boat excursions from the marina<\/a>. For a more fun way to get around, a small tourist train serves the main sites, more info here<\/a>. The city bus<\/a> network and cabs are finally an option.<\/p>\n\n

Day 1 – Diving in the heart of Lagos<\/h2>\n\n

Morning: Discover the historic center<\/h3>\n\n

Start your tour in the historic center of Lagos. Like us, you’ll love the cobbled streets, white facades decorated with azulejos or colored earthenware, and lively little squares. All this in a typical yet friendly atmosphere. On the way down to the marina, we changed worlds with pleasure boats, modern caf\u00e9s and the pretty promenade along the Ribeira de Bensafrim.<\/p>\n\n

Why not visit the Igreja de Santa Maria de Lagos overlooking the Pra\u00e7a Infante Dom Henrique? Continue under the Arch of S\u00e3o Gon\u00e7alo, a medieval vestige of Lagos Castle<\/a>. From the Ponta da Bandeira Fort<\/a>, you can contemplate the view of the ocean and the coast. Finish off with a quick stop at the Lagos Municipal Market to whet your appetite before lunch!<\/p>\n\n

Afternoon: Visit to the Lagos Museum and the Church of Saint Anthony<\/h3>\n\n

Immerse yourself in local history at the Museum of Lagos<\/a>! With its cabinet of curiosities, handicrafts and sacred art, the museum’s collections offer a fascinating insight into the cultural identity of the Algarve. Adjacent to the museum, the Baroque nave of the Church of Saint-Antoine, with its wealth of ornamentation, is a highlight of the visit. We were charmed by the venue’s clarity, meticulous staging and accessibility. In our opinion, it’s one of the most comprehensive and enjoyable museums in the region. There, you can better understand its history and know-how.<\/p>\n\n

Depending on your interests, you can also visit the Mus\u00e9e de l’Esclavage<\/a>. It raises awareness of a major historical subject through an educational approach. Although small, it houses a collection of period objects and documents that bear witness to the slave trade in the region. The exhibition is enhanced by digital tablets, which we believe make the visit more interactive and fun.<\/p>\n\n

Evening: Dinner in a traditional restaurant<\/h3>\n\n

In the heart of Lagos, Restaurant Real Portuguese Cuisine offers a menu featuring Portuguese gastronomy. The cuisine sublimates the flavors of the Algarve through specialties such as cod confit in olive oil and garlic, served with braised potatoes, fleur de sel, broccoli and Portuguese cabbage. Vegetarians are not left out, thanks to dishes like zucchini moussaka with lentils, which we found delicious. For lunch, let yourself be tempted by their menu of tapas, small snacks to share in a warm atmosphere!<\/p>\n\n
