Yes, without hesitation! Three days will allow you to explore the city center at a leisurely pace, enjoy the superb beaches<\/a> lined with ochre cliffs, plan an excursion to the famous Benagil Cave and discover the charming village of Ferragudo<\/a>. It’s a well-balanced format for combining sightseeing, relaxation and the Algarve’s iconic landscapes, without running. Getting around Portim\u00e3o<\/h3>\n\n

Portim\u00e3o city center and the Zona Ribeirinha are within easy walking distance. The alleyways are well laid out, with smooth passages to facilitate wheelchair access. To reach Praia da Rocha or the city’s other beaches, it’s best to travel by car, cab or local bus – more info on the public transport network here<\/a>. That said, in our opinion, the car remains the best option for exploring the surrounding area at your own pace: Ferragudo, Alvor, Lagos… all these must-see sites are much more accessible on your own.<\/p>\n\n

Start your stay by immersing yourself in the soul of Portim\u00e3o. The historic center charmed us with its cobbled streets and colorful facades that bear witness to the town’s rich maritime past. We recommend a detour to the Parc Fonte do Jardim 1 de Dezembro, the Jesuit College Convent<\/a> and the Church of Our Lady of Conception to take in the local architectural heritage.<\/p>\n\n

As you walk along the Zona Ribeirinha to reach the museum, you’ll watch the ballet of boats entering and leaving the port, a pleasant sight that punctuates the stroll. Housed in a former canning factory, the Portim\u00e3o Museum<\/a> offers an immersive insight into the city’s industrial and maritime history, and is an excellent gateway to the destination.<\/p>\n\n

Lunch in a traditional restaurant<\/h3>\n\n

After your visit to the museum, we recommend you head for Praia da Rocha for some fresh air and lunch overlooking the ocean. Restaurant F, located on this iconic beach, offers contemporary local cuisine enhanced by a fine selection of local wines. In our opinion, it’s one of the best restaurants in the destination<\/a>. We particularly appreciated the relaxed atmosphere of this place, where you can enjoy your first Portuguese meal with your feet almost in the sand, against the backdrop of the beach and ocean.<\/p>\n\n

Afternoon: Relaxing and strolling along the golden cliffs<\/h3>\n\n

It’s the perfect time for a panoramic walk along the ocean, between sand and ochre cliffs. In our opinion, the most spectacular stretch is between the Praia dos Tr\u00eas Castelos<\/strong> and the Praia dos Careanos<\/a><\/strong>where the path winds along the top of the cliffs, offering impressive views of the coast and sea. Portim\u00e3o’s most beautiful beaches<\/a> unfold in this area to the delight of the eye. Don’t hesitate to take frequent swimming breaks to cool off!<\/p>\n\n

If you like walking, extend your stroll to the Praia do Vau<\/a><\/strong>. At low tide, you can even reach the nearby beaches via the sand, for a pleasant and soothing stroll with your feet in the water. A great way to digest and enjoy the Algarve landscape.<\/p>\n\n

Evening: Enjoy the services of your hotel and dine there.<\/h3>\n\n

For this first evening, we highly recommend staying in a hotel in Praia da Rocha, the liveliest part of the resort. We were won over by the Bela Vista Hotel & Spa<\/a>, a historic palace with an exceptional location overlooking the beach and a timeless charm. You’ll love the outdoor pool with its panoramic view of the sandy beach, and the L’Occitane spa for total relaxation.<\/p>\n\n
