Ponta da Piedade<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Lagos\/Ponta-da-piedade\/i-RQNcwC7\/1\/NMgzpPMp3w2Nt7VXZhJQTT9VPXb5dkqVNWrS9qqCZ\/L\/ponta_da_piedade_Algarve_Portugal_IMG_6326-L.jpg\" alt=\"Ponta da Piedade from the stairs\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Ponta da Piedade is without doubt one of the Algarve&#8217;s most spectacular sites. From the cliffs, you can contemplate a labyrinth of golden-hued rock formations rising from the Atlantic Ocean. We spent a long time admiring the arches, caves and natural pillars sculpted by erosion. Praia da Fal\u00e9sia<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Albufeira\/Praia-Da-Falesia\/i-MLMXSP8\/1\/CMz2h9TdnRTvfzvMtQ4kjb83DXxBSpRG8JG64rGbt\/L\/Praia_da_Falesia_Beach_Portugal_IMG_5050-L.jpg\" alt=\"Praia da Fal&#xE9;sia from the viewpoint\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The Praia da Fal\u00e9sia stretches for several kilometers, bordered by cliffs whose red, ochre and white strata create a fascinating natural tableau. This is our favorite of the <a href=\"https:\/\/portugallovers.com\/en\/best-beaches-algarve\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Algarve&#8217;s beaches<\/a>. We were impressed by the color palette, which changes according to the time of day. Benagil cave<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Carvoeiro\/Benagil-sea-cave\/i-Qdt4DXv\/1\/89j7ZHnVQVCRRQnLShdwDf9x2bfsNSzrMZjzgmk5\/L\/Algarve_Board_Trips_Benagil_Sea_Caves_Portugal_IMG_5193-L.jpg\" alt=\"Benagil cave by boat\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The Benagil cave has become one of the Algarve&#8217;s most emblematic sites. This natural cathedral, with its dome open to the sky, offers a unique spectacle. We were amazed by the rays of light entering through the upper opening, illuminating the small sandy beach inside the cave.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Access is by sea only, by kayak or boat. View of the village of Ferragudo from Portim\u00e3o<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Ferragudo\/View-village\/i-q8MfVSb\/0\/FPWX9dPGSRg3QJmNXN5prhJLV42x4zNSM6nL94xsg\/L\/Ferragudo_algarve_IMG_0294-L.jpg\" alt=\"Village of Ferragudo\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>From the Portim\u00e3o shore, the view of the village of Ferragudo on the other side of the River Arade is particularly photogenic. The white houses rise up the hill, dominated by the church, which stands out against the landscape. We particularly like this perspective in the late afternoon, when the golden light caresses the facades. Praia da Marinha<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Carvoeiro\/Praia-Da-Marinha\/i-6bP8wwX\/1\/CcBHLRm8v8hCGfHtn5Tw9XxSqGKTx48DZdStWfMNc\/L\/Praia_Da_Marinha_Beach_Portugal_IMG_5277-L.jpg\" alt=\"Praia da Marinha from the top of the cliff\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Praia da Marinha regularly ranks among the world&#8217;s most beautiful beaches. You&#8217;ll understand why. Framed by spectacular limestone cliffs, this cove offers breathtaking scenery. The golden sand contrasts beautifully with the turquoise water. Praia do Camilo<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Lagos\/Praia-do-camilo-beach\/i-k8hmtfN\/1\/w7XGx6RrrNGNNWQhgvsNPK75RTvZXZbSCW3mcW2S\/L\/praia_do_camilo_beach_Portugal_IMG_6277-L.jpg\" alt=\"Praia do Camilo\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Praia do Camilo near Lagos is a small cove accessible by a wooden staircase winding along the cliff. We were won over by the intimacy of this place, surrounded by rock formations sculpted in many colors. View from Silves fort<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Silves\/Castelo-de-Silves\/i-Dw3njhB\/0\/LwjgFvVJLfjLHvwMgCsrGTh2gfjSPHWNthbVLZkKG\/L\/Castelo_de_Silves_Portugal_IMG_6528-L.jpg\" alt=\"View from the Silves fort\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Silves was once the capital of the Moorish Algarve. Its red sandstone castle dominates the town and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. We enjoyed the view over the city, the Monchique mountains in the background and the green valley of the River Arade. This contrast between the historic heritage and natural landscapes of the Algarve&#8217;s interior illustrates the region&#8217;s diversity.  <br\/>Find out more (coming soon).<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Praia de Tr\u00eas Irm\u00e3os<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Portimao\/Praia-dos-Tres-Irmaos\/i-Zgctbwp\/1\/D87SdB6hXmw9rfGCx988mtTwrvWCxRH9LGp3sdJd7\/L\/Praia_dos_tres_irmaos_beach_algarve_IMG_0286-L.jpg\" alt=\"Praia de Tr&#xEA;s Irm&#xE3;os and its double arch\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Praia de Tr\u00eas Irm\u00e3os takes its name from the three monumental rock formations emerging from the ocean. We loved the natural double arch, one of the most photographed features of this beach. Praia de Odeceixe<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Praia-de-Odeceixe\/i-6W2xFGZ\/1\/FQfsSpNsHvWm59zqBHbSFCSVfnCRgsKB6MFchdNN8\/L\/Praia_de_Odeceixe_beach_Portugal_IMG_6651-L.jpg\" alt=\"Praia de Odeceixe and its lagoon\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Praia de Odeceixe marks the northern limit of the Algarve. This exceptional location combines an ocean beach with an estuarine zone where the Seixe River meets the Atlantic. We loved this unique configuration, which creates two different atmospheres. The dark cliffs that frame this landscape create a striking contrast. Barragem de Bravura<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Barragem-Bravura\/i-bGrdNnp\/0\/MrDwtmNF82btRsL4g2DzpphDG7jbnCjpJRPfxF8Zv\/L\/IMG_0339-L.jpg\" alt=\"Barragem de Bravura\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The Bravura dam offers a completely different landscape from the coast. Surrounded by green hills, this man-made lake creates a haven of peace in the hinterland. We appreciated the tranquility of the location, perfect for a getaway from the busy beaches.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">12. Algar Seco<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Carvoeiro\/Algar-seco\/i-kcw3PrB\/1\/LPnsW8kVbgtBhHKBFgzrvpRpBJ8mRtMd66PhwfzjP\/L\/algar_seco_algarve_Portugal_IMG_5818-L.jpg\" alt=\"Algar Seco\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Algar Seco near Carvoeiro is a remarkable geological site. The limestone rock formations sculpted by sea and wind create an almost lunar landscape. We explored the wooden walkways winding between the rocks, which are pierced by holes and caves.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">13. The highest point, F\u00f3ia, is 902m above sea level. This small white village contrasts with the green of the mountains.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">17. Alfanzina lighthouse<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Carvoeiro\/Alfanzina\/i-FnfVQWt\/1\/MwZ5HGjJrxG8NCPmV8NSvptgBSPdvSx4M4nXJPr4h\/M\/Alfanzina_Portugal_IMG_5785-M.jpg\" alt=\"Alfanzina lighthouse and sinkhole\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The Alfanzina lighthouse near Carvoeiro occupies a remarkable site on a cliff overlooking the ocean. You&#8217;ll also find the sum of an open cave for an amazing combination.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">18. Marina de Faro<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Faro\/Ville\/i-s8FQvpV\/0\/Kdq4CsDHPD443qJJgvxGMdbnPW2GBXKL6STL6Qw24\/L\/faro-L.jpg\" alt=\"Faro Marina\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The Faro marina offers a different, more urban and lively atmosphere. Moored boats are reflected in the calm water, creating a photogenic play of light. We enjoyed the Mediterranean atmosphere along the quayside, lined with restaurants and caf\u00e9s.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">19. Vale do Lobo<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Faro\/Vale-do-Lobo\/i-NQvhFP4\/1\/LxW8hq8Nd6G3qqt3v3ngKWdr4QQ5tvq3BsgRVGdbF\/L\/Praia_de_Vale_do_Lobo_Beach_Portugal_IMG_4946-L.jpg\" alt=\"Vale do Lobo and its orange formations\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Vale do Lobo is famous for its prestigious golf course, but the beach is also well worth a visit. The red sandstone cliffs that gradually collapse into the sea create a fascinating geological landscape. We were impressed by the eroded rock formations that resemble natural sculptures.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">20. View of Tavira from the river banks<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Tavira\/Town-Tavira\/i-Wx3SBzS\/0\/Cjm6prmkhzS4BLsxkwWV2RNTdtf2ZDxGc5sVsCk2r\/L\/Tavira_Portugal_IMG_4820-L.jpg\" alt=\"Tavira from the river\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Tavira is considered one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/portugallovers.com\/en\/best-towns-algarve-villages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most beautiful towns in the Algarve<\/a>. From the banks of the Gil\u00e3o River, admire the panorama of white houses with gambrel roofs, churches and historic bridges. View from Loul\u00e9 Castle<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Loul%C3%A9-\/Castle\/i-3hDjNsC\/0\/M7g9WXLXXNjcZ9xQfg92fTNnsXp5nfJ8CXVRKNVm5\/L\/loule%CC%81%20%20castle-L.jpg\" alt=\"View from Loul&#xE9; Castle\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The 13th-century Ch\u00e2teau de Loul\u00e9 offers an interesting perspective on this town in the Algarve interior. From the ramparts, you can contemplate the tiled roofs, domes and minarets that bear witness to the region&#8217;s Moorish past. We enjoyed this immersion in local history and architecture. The view also extends to the surrounding hills, giving a glimpse of the Algarvian countryside. Seen from above, the water&#8217;s curves evoke the shape of a blue dragon winding its way through the hills. We were surprised by the beauty of this landscape, little known to the tourists who stay on the coast. The turquoise waters contrast with the green vegetation of the surrounding hills. It&#8217;s a peaceful place, ideal for a nature getaway away from the hustle and bustle of the coast. From several vantage points you can admire the meandering lake and understand why it&#8217;s nicknamed the &#8220;blue dragon&#8221;.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">24. Cabo de S\u00e3o Vicente<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Portugal\/Algarve\/Sagres\/Cabo-de-Sao-Vicente\/i-SXWjjNw\/0\/D77fkPLM2Dgdh35qBvVCjQvk9FfjcQtjncFpNvbBR\/L\/cabo_san_vicente_Portugal_IMG_6463-L.jpg\" alt=\"Cabo de S&#xE3;o Vicente\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Cabo de S\u00e3o Vicente marks the most south-westerly point of continental Europe. This historic site was an important center during the era of Portuguese discovery. We enjoyed the special atmosphere of this historic site. From the ramparts, you can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean as far as the eye can see, and the breathtaking cliffs plunging into the sea.
