Yes, S\u00e3o Jorge Castle is well worth a visit. We loved the freedom to explore<\/strong> this site, between towers and ramparts. The successful combination of historic heritage<\/strong> and spectacular views<\/strong> makes for a memorable experience. Although the entrance fee may seem high, the extent of the site with its gardens and the quality of conservation of the fortifications more than justify the investment.For us, it’s one of the best things to do in Lisbon<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n

Why is S\u00e3o Jorge Castle famous?<\/h3>\n\n

The ch\u00e2teau owes its renown to a number of factors. Its strategic position<\/strong> atop Lisbon’s highest hill made it for centuries the center of political and military power, occupied successively by the Moors and then by the Portuguese kings after the Reconquista <\/em>of 1147. Its distinctive silhouette<\/strong>, visible from many points in the capital, makes it an emblematic landmark in the urban landscape.Finally, the castle is famous for offering one of Lisbon’s finest panoramic views<\/strong>, embracing the entire city…<\/p>\n\n
