Do you know Praia do Ouro? This is Sesimbra‘s most famous beach, boasting a wide stretch of golden sand bordered by the crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean. This is where the name “Golden Beach” comes from. Whether you’re looking for a stroll or a swim, don’t miss this must-see beach in the charming fishing village.
During our visit to the Arrabida Natural Park, we were seduced by the blue hues of the ocean and the view of the Sesimbra lighthouse.
In this article, you’ll find our photos and tips for making the most of your visit to Praia do Ouro.

This opinion is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
Is Praia do Ouro worth it?
Yes, in our opinion this beach is well worth a visit. First and foremost, we liked its accessibility and width, so that everyone, adults and children alike, can find their ideal space. The beach is also distinguished by its facilities, notably its ashtrays and sorting garbage cans, which bear witness to responsible ecological management. You’ll see its 17th-century fort, which stands on the eastern side, adding a historic touch to the landscape. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in Sesimbra!

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The beach floor is made up of fine golden sand. Its gentle slope facilitates access to the water, without the presence of sandbanks. In our opinion, this makes it a very pleasant place for a stroll or a family swim.

Swimming conditions and supervision
Swimming conditions are good thanks to the calm, clear waters, ideal for snorkeling and diving. We were reassured by the presence of a system of flags indicating whether swimming is permitted. The current and winds can be quite strong, depending on the time of year. The beach is also supervised by lifeguards.

Installations
When we took advantage of the Praia do Ouro, we were able to benefit from modern infrastructures. During the summer season, wicker umbrellas and deckchairs are set up on the sand. You can also take advantage of well-maintained showers, public toilets, ashtrays and waste sorting garbage cans. Please note, however, that camping is prohibited on this downtown beach.

With children
If you’re wondering, this beach is perfectly suited to families. Firstly, because the PMR access mentioned above allows you to use a baby carriage on part of the sandy beach. The children’s play area and beach soccer pitch also caught our eye. Last but not least, the gentle slope and calm waters make it a great place for younger children to swim if they are already good swimmers.

It is not possible to practice naturism on this beach.
Eating out
Numerous restaurants line the beach. We particularly recommend 2 establishments:
- Portofino Restaurant, offering bistronomic cuisine with its feet in the sand
